Explore the 9-day cultural tour and wildlife safari with the Maasai people that dwell in Tanzania’s rural plains, where their nomadic lifestyle and long history as herders have made them one of the continent’s most well-known tribes. Here are some of the greatest ways to immerse yourself in this culture while in Arusha. Full Itinerary

Day 1, arrival at the airport. + -

You will be picked up by one of our friendly English speaking guides and taken to your accommodation in Moshi.

Day 2: Walking Tour to Mount Meru + -

Enjoy a walking tour on the foothills of Mt. Meru. You learn about the way of living of the WaMoshi and see how local people grow crops like coffee, banana, maize and vegetables. Overnight in Moshi.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park + -

The place with the highest amount of elephants per square kilometer is Tarangire NP. Eat your lunch while watching the elephants taking a bath in the Tarangire river. Overnight in a comfortable tented camp.

Day 4: Maasai Cultural Tour + -

Interact with the attractive tall Maasai. They will teach you about their way of living. Tonight you will spend the night in the Maasai village, called a boma, to get to know these magnificent people very well.

Day 5: Maasai Boma Tour + -

Today you will live a day as a Maasai. They will show you how to milk their cattle, where they fetch their water and collect their firewood, how a real Maasai dances and which herbal medicines they use. Overnight in Karatu.

Day 6: Visit Lake Eyasi + -

In the morning you will have time to relax and take a swim. Then drive on the rough road to Lake Eyasi. Overnight in a comfortable tented camp.

Day 7: Hadzabe & Datoga Cultural Tour + -

Get up early to help the Hadzabe with the preparations for their daily hunt. To get their protein they hunt twice a day. After the hunting you can try to shoot with the bow and arrow yourself. See where the metal arrows come from, by visiting the neighboring tribe the Datoga. These people, also called the blacksmiths, will melt anything into arrows and jewellery. In the afternoon drive back to Karatu.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Wildlife Safari + -

Today you will have an amazing game drive at one of the best places in Africa to watch wildlife the Ngorongoro Crater. Not only can you spot the black rhino here, but also lions, elephants, buffalos, wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelles, zebras, hippos and flamingos. Overnight at a tented camp overlooking Lake Manyara.

Day 9 - Mto Wa Mbu Village Tour - Moshi + -

Visit the little village Mto Wa Mbu. You will visit the local market and get to know about Tanzanian food. Have a look at the rice fields and their farmers. Get carried away by the fascinating local witchcraft. Enjoy a local lunch in Mto Wa Mbu. In the afternoon drive back to Moshi.
